Solid Waste Collection The Department of Public Works performs several solid waste collection services to make the District of Columbia a "clean city." DPW picks up bulk items from District residences by appointment; removes dead animals from the public space; provides cleanups after evictions; supplies supercans for trash pickups in certain areas of the city; and collects household trash from District residences.
